What is .NET, and why does it matter?

.NET is Microsoft's development framework for building web applications, APIs, desktop software and cloud-native services, and it remains a default choice for organizations already invested in the Microsoft ecosystem — Windows Server, Azure, SQL Server and Active Directory. The modern .NET (formerly .NET Core) is cross-platform, open source, and genuinely competitive on performance, which has kept it relevant for both legacy enterprise systems and new cloud-native builds. Companies choose .NET when they need tight integration with existing Microsoft infrastructure, strong enterprise support, and a framework built with security and maintainability as first-class concerns — which is why it remains common in finance, healthcare, government and large corporate IT departments. Demand for .NET developers stays consistent because so much existing enterprise software runs on it, and migrations to modern .NET (rather than replacement) are a steady stream of work in their own right. Our .NET track covers C# fundamentals, object-oriented design, and then moves into ASP.NET Core for building REST APIs and web applications, along with Entity Framework for database access. You'll also work with Azure basics, since most .NET deployments today target Azure App Service or Azure Functions.
